What are the diffusion properties of molecules through QGel matrix?

Diffusion properties strongly depend on the size and the hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity properties of the molecules. The pore size of QGel matrix is smaller than cells and was estimated to be in the nano meter range (approx. 25nm, see Raeber et al, Biophysical Journal, 2005).

Most molecules that are soluble in the media can diffuse in and out the QGel matrix easily. For example, growth factors and proteins (e.g. VEGF and antibodies) were shown to diffuse through the gel (Zisch et al., The FASEB Journal, 2003, Krahenbuehl et al., Biomaterials 2008).
